Documented violation
Saadia Mosbah
Saadia Mosbah, a human rights activist, is president of the association “Mnemty”, which aims to raise awareness of the value of diversity and the importance of equality and of avoiding racism, and to ensure legal protection for all, as well as to raise the standing of Black people in the cultural sphere and promote social and economic development.
The case dates back to early May 2024, when the activist and her association were targeted by an organised incitement campaign on social media marked by hate speech and racist exploitation. On 6 May 2024, a judicial investigation was opened into the association’s activities; she was arrested, the association’s premises and her home were searched, and she was questioned until the late hours of the morning, before it was decided to hold her in police custody pending investigation. The activist faces several charges, including forming an association with the aim of helping a person to enter Tunisian territory, as well as charges of illicit enrichment, money laundering and failure to keep legal accounts, for which she was later sentenced to 8 years in prison on 19 March 2026.
According to the testimony given to Intersection Association for Rights and Freedoms by Chadi, a friend of the association, Saadia is subjected to several violations in prison: she is prevented from having prison visits and meetings in person with her family members and lawyers, and is placed under constant surveillance during any contact. Like other women prisoners of conscience, she is also subjected to regular, thorough searches of her entire body. She also suffers from poor health conditions that do not respect international health standards. In addition, she is subjected to harassment and bullying by other women prisoners, which, according to the witness, reflects the extent of the incitement against her.
