Documented violation

Mohamed Amine Jendoubi

January 2025

Mohamed Amine Jendoubi, a 22-year-old Tunisian man, suffers from diabetes. A decision dismissing the case against him (“non-lieu”) had been issued months earlier, yet he was not released and his detention continued. In January 2025, the victim’s mother posted a live video documenting her son’s suffering in detention, stating that he remained shackled in prison while suffering a severe deterioration in his health, until he fell into a coma. On 17 July 2025, a video circulated on social media documenting the family’s discovery of their son’s death, which had occurred 10 days earlier at Charles Nicolle Hospital without the authorities informing the family, sparking widespread anger and accusations of a cover-up and of failure to disclose the truth.
