Documented violation
Chawki Tabib
Chawki Tabib, a Tunisian lawyer, former President of the National Bar Association and former president of the National Anti-Corruption Authority, has been subjected to judicial harassment lasting more than six years, culminating in the issuance of a committal warrant against him on 14 April 2026; he is currently held in Belli Civil Prison in Nabeul.
Since his committal to prison on 14 April 2026, his family has received information indicating that he is being deprived of necessary health care despite suffering from chronic illnesses (diabetes and arthritis). A rheumatologist examined him and prescribed treatment, but the prison administration stated that it had not received the prescription even though it had been sent directly to it, resulting in his being deprived of the prescribed treatment. He was also unable to obtain medical supplies recommended by doctors (including a medical pillow), even though they are a therapeutic necessity. A month earlier, he had fainted in prison and had to be taken to hospital in Nabeul. He himself wrote to the prison administration demanding that the prescriptions be implemented, without response.
