Ramzi Briki

The late Ramzi Briki was placed in pre-trial detention and committed to Mahdia Civil Prison in October 2023. He went on a hunger strike that began on Friday 22 December 2023, which led to his death on Sunday 24 December 2023 at 8:55 p.m.; his brother had visited him on Thursday 21 December 2023 and confirmed that he was in good health”.
The administration of Mahdia Civil Prison was aware that the victim suffered from diabetes and needed insulin doses and constant medical follow-up. It did not inform the victim’s family of his death; the family learned of it by chance, and the news was confirmed when the victim’s brother went to the Hiboun National Security station on Monday 25 December 2023 at 11 a.m. On going from there to Mahdia Civil Prison, he stated that he had witnessed a state of tension and unrest owing to the death, adding that the prison director was not aware of the death at that time.
